We met ...

The year was 2009 and it was a cold Thursday night in January. Sean and Melissa found themselves at the same bar that shall not be named to spend some time with their friends - it was the first and last time either had been so call it fate! Melissa was having fun with her friends until someone said there was a guy who wanted to dance with her. It should be noted that Sean saw her when she had first arrived but it took him almost three hours before he made his move. So, she looked up and said "hubba hubba. " They danced the night away and exchanged numbers. Melissa spent all of the next day hoping and praying Sean would reach out. The only problem was that in the loud bar, she thought his name was John not Sean! Luckily she found him on Facebook and realized her mistake before he ever knew. Finally on Saturday night, after hours of strategy talk with a girlfriend, Melissa texted Sean. She figured "why wait for him?!" They made plans to get together that night and have been together ever since. Since then, they've had incredible experiences in NYC,  traveled all over the U.S., moved in together, shared the love of their neighborhood in Brooklyn with anyone who will indulge them and have started chipping away at their world tour wish list. They've supported each other through it all and created a bond built on friendship and love. After almost 6 years together, Sean planned the best proposal to pop the question. Knowing Melissa, he had to plan something she wouldn't see coming. Spontaneous and personal, Sean nailed it. Sean invited Melissa to Friday night date night at her favorite Italian restaurant in Nolita following his company holiday party. He casually mentioned that he committed to participating in his clients' holiday photo scavenger hunt, so before dinner they would have to pop on to the BK Bridge to snap a photo of the view. "Fun fun!" thought Melissa. That night, she picked Sean up at his office to catch the tail end of the holiday party at Force Brands- always a good time, they have the best parties! Sean was acting a bit anxious but Melissa thought nothing of it. They made their way to the bridge and stopped at one of the first sets of benches where Sean told Melissa to watch a video he made her as a Christmas gift while he "set up" for the photo. The video was beautiful- it captured their story through photos and voice commentary from Sean. Towards the end, Melissa's favorite song (Lana del Rey, Young and Beautiful) came on- thats when she started to get all teary and thought this MIGHT be it! It MIGHT be happening. The video came to the end with Sean holding a ring box. At the same time, Sean got down on his knee and popped the question. (Watch it all happen here on our wedding website!) Melissa obviously said YES! and the two excitedly popped some bubbly on the bridge and walked back to the Brooklyn side celebrating every step of the way!
